hello all- i am in desperate need of new music....any suggestions? what is everyone listening to? also, i want to get an iron and wine album, which is the best? hope you all are well-
John showed me a really neat website called noisetrade where you can pay what you want for albums or tell friends to get it for free. The music is mostly along a similar vein, somewhat known (some lesser known). I've heard some stuff I really like. Check out:
Katie Herzig Andy Gullahorn Sandra McKracken Matthew Perryman Jones... and look at the others on the site.
Also, I have been watching Grey's Anatomy a lot, and when the subtitles are on, it tells you the artist and song that is playing on the show. So I've been collecting a lot of random songs here and there. Here are some that I really like right now:
Foy Vance, Homebird Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Falling or Flying Patrick Watson, The Great Escape Inara George, Fools in Love Ingrid Michaelson, Keep Breathing Emiliana Torrini, Sunny Road
I'm also discovering that I really love Patti Griffin's voice. I always go back to the Weepies, especially their latest album Hideaway. I've been listening also to Lisa Loeb Firecracker, Joni Mitchel Blue and Maria Taylor 11:11.
Jamie probably could say more to Iron & Wine. As for me I'm totally in love with their album The Shepherd's Dog.
Iron and Wine albums you should own: In The Reins- Calexico and Iron and Wine this is a great collaboration. side note: calexico is featured in the Bob Dylan flick 'I'm not there'. beautiful:

Our Endless Numbered Days- Iron and Wine this was like one of their first two huge albums; a great thing to have. The Sea & the Rhythm {ep}- Iron and Wine one of my favorites. very sexual album so um if you're into that sort of thing. Woman King- Iron and Wine this album is great, has some very strong songs. I think it is an {ep} as well so it will be cheep. the sound on this album is pretty great. ____
other stuff:
I always listen to Ben Folds when I am losing faith in musicianship.
David Bazan- frontman to pedro the lion. his music is like the undercurrent of my listening. Pick up some of Pedro the Lion's albums I would go for Achilles Heel and Control. I would also look into Dave's solo album as well as his side project called Headphones.
if you like the Pixies I would go get Teenager of the Year- Frank Black... but that is only if you want your skull cut open and your brain punched by rock n' roll.
Return to the Sea- Islands State Songs- John Linnell (give it a try) The Best of the Squirrel Nut Zippers- Squirrel Nut Zippers
a new band to me is this pair of hot vixens called Vermillion Lies. I would look into them they are fun. Go see them live.
Medeski, Martin & Wood go buy 'End of the World Party' to get a good taste of them. I am seeing them soon!
yes and yes...and like lib said try sites like www.pandora.com to find new things. also a good way to discover new bands is by stalking other bands. if you have a band you really like say iron and wine, then read about who they listen too, read the inside flap of the cd look for the thank you section and stalk the bands they thank. look through the weekly and other periodicals and see who they are featuring. stalk cool people's myspace friends, and then their friends (fuck thats what it is there for) these are all good ways to find music you dig.
I have been listening to Alanis Morissette, Juanes, Ennio Morricone and Cake almost circularly. Compared to the lists above, this makes me what those chain smoking, mall loitering teenagers call LAME. Whatever.
