back in the studio

Hi. I am working on this. It's going to be a painting. Actually, it will be turning into a series.
Before I say anything more...what are your first thoughts?

i think there are a lot of options with the lamb figure-i like how it is broken apart-you want to put it back together......go, go!

Besides perhaps obvious suggestions of meat culture, I have been reading Leviticus. Sacrifices, offerings... how foreign they are to our social institutions.

I want to build it and play with it.

Also I think Chris Farley.

A friend of mine was talking just yesterday about how she was in 4H and had to know all the cuts of the cow when she showed them. She said it was hard because she didn't want to think about the animal being butchered. We talked about small communities that raise their own meat and how they sometimes rotate the butchering responsibility so as never to become desensitized to the act of killing. But I'm also interested in the idea of taking the life of the animal and offering it as a good and pure sacrifice, not just as a consumable resource.

Hmmm, what else are you thinking about this? What conceptual things and then also what technical ideas.

This holiday at Anthro, we have these sheep that were built. these were the templates. But i found them graphically very interesting. I imagine them very large, and as for the technical I am not quite sure. I think color choice and application of the paint will add a lot to how they read. They may not even go anywhere, but I am going to start playing.

Lauren,

No kidding that sacrifice and offering are lost on contemporary society-I am not sure I can even fully comprehend those terms.

This has a very simple sense about it, the 1-2-3 sheep!, a puzzle with a simple solution. It could be a very quick read, as the symbol is a multi-faceted one, and thus a potential loss to you. I kind of like how butchered the poor thing is! One leg, flat bottomed...Sydney, I am reminded of Dave's piece that you worked on with the assembly of lots of sheep to make a bigger instrument.

This is a fantastic play to being playing, I like that word playing. Sheep-Oveja.

I think parts of the image are more interesting then others...for example I wouldn't even used the big side shot of the sheep, however I love the little leg and the butt.

The image is very loaded...so uh have fun with that! Damien Hirst comes to mind...

happy painting, good luck!
